Winter Conclave

Tannu Lodge's annual Winter Conclave was a blast, once again. Sky Tavern was the location we invaded this year, and attendance reached nearly 50, almost doubling the previous year. If you missed out on the weekend long party, you missed out on, among other things, a Guitar Hero competition, Elections, and even some tips for a first date by newly elected Lodge Chief Kyle Peterson during the public speaking class. Our newly elected lodge officers are as follows:

  • Lodge Chief - Kyle Peterson
  • Vice Chief of Inductions - Peter Fromherz
  • Vice Chief of Program - Paul Fromherz
  • Secretary - David Bridges
  • Treasurer - Luke Knudsen

Section W3B Conclave

This years Section conclave was held at Bakersfield College in Bakersfield, CA. It was a fantastic event that was not only attended by people from the section but also by Western Region Chief Chad Wolver and National Chief Evan Chafee. It was an exciting weekend filled with great training sessions, including some taught by our fellow lodge brithers: Derek Jordan taught Brotherhood Basics and Symbolism, Randy Pares taught Meeting the Ceremonial Principals, Jake Knudsen taught Robert's Rules of Order, Kyle Peterson tought New Members: Managing you OA Life, and Jack and Pat Sheen taught a very cool Firebuilding class. Classes were great and took up the morning after which the Mid-Way opened featuring Tannu's Pronghorn snow cones. The snow cone booth was a nice cool treat to cool off in the Bakerfield heat.

A much anticipated event was that of the Section Elections which resulted in Randy Pares winning the election for Section Chief, way to go Randy! Section Conclave finished up with a terrific show that was partially filmed in Reno and featured some Tannu members. Conclave was a bunch of fun and will be even more fun next year being held in Nevada and incoprating the Nevada Air Races. Hope to see you all next year and at Winter Conclave this year being held at Sky Tavern.

Yours in Service,
Kyle Peterson

About Tannu Lodge

Tannu Lodge is the Order of the Arrow Lodge for the Nevada Area Council. Members of Tannu Lodge perform service to camp and conduct other fun activities around Northern Nevada. The OA assists with the preparation of Camp Fleischmann for summer camp by erecting tents on the platforms, clearing debris from the sites, and performing other tasks.

What is the Order of the Arrow?

The Order of the Arrow is an organization within the Boy Scouts of America that provides service and leadership opportunities for older Scouts. It is the BSA's honored camper society and is dedicated to cheerful service.

I went through my Ordeal. Now what?

If you are a member of the OA, the Lodge needs your help. The first thing to do is to start attending your chapter meeting. Important information about upcoming events is given out at chapter meetings and you need to be there to keep up to date with what is going on in the lodge.

Then, start coming to the lodge events. We have three service days aroud the council each year (Fellowships) and a Winter Conclave, where we have a weekend of fun and games. We also have an annual gathering of the lodges in our section called the "Conclave". This weekend is always exciting and is fun for all. In 2007, the section conclave will be at the Bakersfield College in Bakersfield California. The theme is "2007: The BOND of Brotherhood".

Who can be in the Order of the Arrow?

The OA is often referred to as "Scouting's Honor Society". Membership in the OA is granted only to those who are elected by their own troop. Thus, members are selected primarily by non-members.

Election into the Order of the Arrow is fairly unique. The OA is one of few organizations where selection is made by primarilly non-members. Each year, Boy Scout troops are permitted to hold an Order of the Arrow election. Traditionally, it is held in the spring, but it is permissible for it to be held at any time during the year. All youth members, as well as Scouters under the age of twenty-one, are permitted to vote in this election. Troops that elect at least one youth are eligible to nominate an adult for consideration. To request that an OA election team visit your troop, please contact your chapter.
